A French proverb states, “Beauty, unaccompanied by virtue, is as a flower without perfume.” Beauty reveals poise, balance, gracefulness, kindness, confidence, energy and elegance, like a flower at the very peak of its bloom. How do we help shoppers achieve this inner beauty?

More than 75 years ago, a British physician and surgeon named Dr. Edward Bach found certain flowers actually contain qualities to help us stay healthy, happy and energized. He made a sun tea of each flower, and then diluted the tea with water and brandy, creating bottles of positive flower energy. In all, he found 38 remedies to balance negative emotions; these remedies are known today as the Bach flower remedies.

Negative emotions are the nemesis of beauty—they leave us frustrated, tired and drained. And honestly, does anyone find whining, fear or worry attractive? On a purely physical level, negative emotions increase cortisols in the blood and wreak havoc on our skin, hair and nails. Skin cells oxidize, their resilience decreases and wrinkles appear. Stress is related to a myriad of diseases, from cancers to autoimmune dysfunctions. The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) correlates stress as a major factor in more than 75 percent of all diseases. Flower remedies bring us back to our natural positive state of mind, restoring enthusiasm and vitality. Taken orally or applied topically, flower remedies are completely safe, are dilute doses of energy (similar to homeopathics), and do not interact with any other types of medicine.

As consumers struggle to keep their lives in balance and aim to find meaning and purpose in their lives, the Bach flower remedies can help reinforce their inner beauty and poise.
