Natural Skin Care

Mother Nature has definitely equipped skin-care formulators with plenty of ingredients, from botanicals to superfruits. And no one ingredient or one product serves as a fix-all. It often takes several different products with myriad ingredients to effectively solve the problem the consumer is trying to address. “We find the vast majority of skin care products, especially the conventional and some natural products, have never understood that the skin is the largest organ of the body,” said Lou Paradise, president and product formulator, Topical Biomedics Inc. “As such, they completely miss that the skin needs a number of things to stay vibrant and healthy.”

Herpanacine Skin Support System by Dr. Wayne C. Diamond, naturopathic physician and holistic psychotherapist, uses a combination of beta-carotene, L-tyrosine, vitamin E, L-lysine, selenium, dandelion root, astragalas, ligustrum berry, Echinacea and zinc, delivered in a vegetable capsule. “These ingredients are working synergistically to prevent skin conditions, while building the immune system to support the body to be healthy head to toe. They are working at the cause of skin conditions from the inside out,” Diamond said.

The key botanicals, essential oils and natural active ingredients in Organique, Himalaya’s skin care line, are organic ingredients grown on its own farmland. The company incorporates ingredients such as ashwagandha, turmeric, neem, holy basil and lavender oil into its products.

Angelica Vrablic, Ph.D., manager of nutrition research at Home Health, said their formulators use organic botanicals; goji berry, a rich source of carotenoids that can help protect the skin from UV rays; hyauronic acid, which occurs naturally in the skin and helps to hold moisture and promote regeneration of skin cells; and almond oil, which serves as a natural moisturizer that absorbs easily into the skin.
