Why Vitamins Are Still Selling

November 3, 2009 Comments

Recent government reports and economists statements have said the recession in the United States is officially over. But many supplement sellers may not want to get out of this recession just yet. It seems the economic hard times have actually been a period of economic growth for those who make and sell vitamins

In a Slate article, Daniel Gross discusses the reasons why this industry boomed while everyone else was doomed. He said the growth has three reasons behind it:

  1.  Americans are more focused on health. They are cutting back on bad habits and adopting healthier lifestyles, which includes supplements.
  2. Americans are losing health insurance and are turning to vitamins and supplements as alternatives to expensive prescription drugs
  3. Baby Boomers are becoming more obsessed with anti-aging and health, and are spending to obtain both.
