Not all chemicals are bad. However, given the decades-long struggle with pollution, over-chemicalized foods and pernicious lifestyles (boozin’, smokin’, gluttony, etc.), society is faced with a pretty hefty potential for toxin-laced bodies. Even for those who successfully limit the ingestion or proximity to such toxins, a plan of detoxification can be the best way to cleanse the body and return it to a healthier place.
“Modern society is fraught with more stress than ever, notably the stress that directly affects the digestive system,” explained Sunil Kohli, COO, Health Plus Inc. “Poor diet from years of consuming ‘anti-nutrients’ found in packaged and fast foods, environmental pollutants and the mental stress of uncertainty from a bleak economy all affect the body overall and the digestive system. When the digestive system is stressed, it does not absorb nutrients, and can malabsorb the anti-nutrients and delay normal bowel movements, adding to toxins building up in the colon that get absorbed into the bloodstream.”
A toxic state in the body can lead to fatigue, malabsorption of vital nutrients, improper functioning organs, weight gain, mental dysfunction and a host of other health- and lifestyle-related burdens.
The body naturally tries to detoxify in many ways, including sweating, exhaling and excretion. The kidneys filter some waste compounds, which end up in the urine, but the organ working the most for detoxification is the liver. As such, many detox programs focus on helping the liver do its job, which includes ensuring the liver is as healthy as possible.
Yogi Tea’s Detox variety addresses both liver and kidney function, incorporating burdock and organic dandelion for the former and juniper berries to support the latter. It also includes the traditional Ayurvedic cleansing blend trikatu, a mixture of ginger, black pepper and long pepper, to improve blood flow. “The teas are safe to use regularly and for extended periods of time,” assured Karta Purkh Singh Khalsa, an herbalist with Yogi Tea.
