Addressing Pet Peeves

The perfect summer afternoon for many who browse natural product aisles may be grabbing the leash and taking their dogs for a hike along a beautiful trail. Perhaps others would prefer that same trail, but on the back of their trusted horse companion. Or, maybe it’s beating the heat by curling up on a shaded porch chair with kitty and a good book.

Whatever it is, it’s certain not to be at the vet’s office with concern for their loved one’s obesity, diabetes or painful joints. And, it’s definitely not administering meds to their reluctant pet.

Let’s go back to the good times: on the trail or snuggling up with clean fur. Ah, yes; let’s keep pets happy and healthy as long as possible. This may start with a trip to the natural products store’s pet-health aisle, where pet parents (“owners” is not what these caregivers are) can find plentiful products to help keep pets in tip-top shape.

“We all know we are going to get old—what we’re all hoping is that we will age gracefully and not just crash and burn, and it’s same for our pets,” said Susan D. Weiss, president, Ark Naturals Products for Pets. “Pet owners are hoping that keeping their pets healthy maximizes their opportunity to enjoy their pets’ life—be it active or just hanging on the couch for as long as possible.”

Consumers’ interest in natural pet care products has increased from a small, specialized group to the majority of today’s pet owners, said Darcie Brault, assistant brand manager, Pet Naturals of Vermont. “While this consumer base increases, so do their options and their need for more innovative and effective natural products. Manufacturers are producing more products to fulfill these demands, and the consumers are driving the need for even more innovative and effective products.”
