Enzymes and Allergies

Many people discomforted by bouts of allergic reactions may be surprised to know digestive enzymes not only help with food allergies, but they may also factor in respiratory allergies. D.K. Weamer, director of technical services, Enzymes Inc., explained protease enzymes interact with immunogobulins and can circulate in the bloodstream, helping to balance the immune response, including inflammation and irritation, and to decrease reactivity to allergens. According to Ellen Cutler, author of “MicroMiracles: Discover the Healing Power of Enzymes,” proteases may also help breakdown foreign bodies that might be identified as allergens by the immune system.
