WhiteWave, CU Football ‘Go Green’

09/05/2008

BROOMFIELD, Colo.—WhiteWave Foods Co. is supporting the University of Colorado’s Green Stampede, a program aimed at incorporating renewable energy and other eco-friendly initiatives into the CU football season. Among the plans:

  • Bonneville Environmental Foundation will offset 100 percent of electricity used at CU home games with renewable energy.
  • Carbon offsets from the Colorado Carbon Fund will offset football team travel and other football-related energy use.
  • Concessions packaging will be recyclable or compostable, with the aim of recycling or composting at least 90 percent of the waste generated at its stadium—eliminating 9 tons of trash per home game.
  • WhiteWave will sponsor free “bike valet parking” at the stadium.
  • WhiteWave is supplying Horizon Organic milk at home games to 1,000 area children who receive free tickets through CU’s “Ralphies Kids Roundup” program.

“As one of the first major collegiate programs to commit to a sustainability measure of this kind, we knew the Green Stampede was something we wanted to support,” said Joe Scalzo, president and CEO, WhiteWave. “By partnering with CU, we can have a greater impact on improving our local community.”
