LOS ANGELES—A recent study by Hyland's Inc. found that the parts of the United States with the highest unemployment rates wish for more sleep than the rest of the nation. The West and Midwest regions of the country reported the highest need for more sleep each night (63 and 73 percent respectively) and, according to the Bureau of Labor, are also are reporting the highest jobless rates (7.3 and 6.9 percent). The East Coast reported the least need for more sleep and has the lowest rate of unemployment at 6.1 percent. The survey also reported 18 percent of respondents from the West and 20 percent from the Midwest claimed to wake up during the night and have trouble falling back to sleep, the highest percentage of this pattern. The survey found that all over the United States, the economy was the leading cause of stress.
