WASHINGTON—The Congressional Dietary Supplement Caucus, in cooperation with the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and Natural Products Association (NPA), hosted a speaker lunch briefing, “Women’s Health and Wellness 101: Dietary Supplements,” to educate Congressional staffers. The event was the fourth in a series of lunch speaker briefings designed to address issues related to the safety and benefits of dietary supplements.
Women’s health expert Donnica Moore, M.D., spoke to more than 60 attendees about important women’s health issues, including what she considers to be the four pillars of health—proper nutrition, sleep, exercise, and vitamins and other dietary supplements. “One of the most common questions that I get from my patients is ‘what supplements do you take’,” Moore said, who noted she personally takes fish oil, calcium and a multivitamin that contains 400 IU of vitamin D. However, she cautioned, “What’s right for me is not necessarily a recipe for all women. This is a highly individualized decision that should ideally be discussed with your health care professional.”
