IRVINE, Calif.—Vitamer Labs created the “Double Verified Gluten Free” program and trademarked logo for their private label dietary supplements. Finished products undergo gluten testing using an ELISA test, to detect the presence of gluten. Once the test confirms gluten is at 10 ppm or less, a new logo will be placed on the front panel of the label. This process is in addition to validating that the allergen statement for raw materials does not list gluten, making the entire process double verified.
The new logo will appear on the front panel of applicable labels and will be phased in beginning in December 2009.
“Our new Double Verified Gluten Free Program will truly benefit our customer and the consumer. Not only do we verify the Certificate of Analysis’ allergen statement from our suppliers, we now use the appropriate, validated ELISA test method to verify and confirm the absence of gluten below 10 ppm in our finished products. Both consumers with Celiac disease and consumers with gluten sensitivity will appreciate this extra step of testing our products,” states Jane Drinkwalter, vice president of sales for Vitamer Labs.
