NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y.—In a clinical study conducted by Advanced Brain Monitoring (ABM), Carlsbad, Calif., NutraOrigin’s Omega-3 Fish Oil supplements reduced the effects of sleep deprivation and overall drowsiness while also reducing signs of physiological anxiety. ABM selected the NutraOrigin product after reviewing a number of commercially available options and assessing for concentration of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), molecular distillation and product stability.

The randomized, crossover study included 30 subjects who received a placebo or NutraOrigin Omega-3 Fish Oil formula (1,200 EPA/800 DHA) for four to six weeks before undergoing lab controlled sleep deprivation for 48 hours, and then repeated the intervention on the opposite treatment. Subjects were assessed during the sleep deprivation periods using a battery of neuropsychological tests.

Researchers found the fish oil supplement facilitated sleep-deprived performance maintenance, reduced overall drowsiness, and improved perceptions of emotional and physical capability. According to ABM, NutraOrigin’s omega-3 product was also associated with a trend toward reducing signs of physiological anxiety. Study patients taking the fish oil supplements had better reaction times and less inaccuracy than patients taking placebo.

“We are extremely honored to have been chosen by Advanced Brain Monitoring to participate in this study,” said Alex Kheshin, chief operating officer, NutraOrigin. “We take pride in offering our customers only top-notch products that provide legitimate results for the consumer. We pursue ongoing research for our products and are excited by the discovery of yet another potential health benefit of omega-3.”
