SAN CLEMENTE, Calif.–Doctor's Best introduced Real Krill into its dietary supplement line. This product comes as 30 or 60 softgels, each supplying 350 mg of a sustainably-harvested Antarctic Krill Oil complex. Real Krill is a lipid nutrient complex sustainably harvested from the Antarctic Krill, Euphausia superba. Krill are shrimp-like ocean creatures that feed exclusively on algae, the primary producers in the marine food chain. Krill thrive in the frigid Antarctic seas because of their ample content of the omega-3 fatty acids DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) and EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid). Most of the DHA and EPA of krill oil occurs linked into phospholipid molecules, preformed building blocks for the cell membranes that drive life processes. In fish oil, the DHA and EPA occurs as triglycerides, which are storage forms of fat. The naturally-occurring phospholipids in krill serve to increase the bioavailability of the essential fatty acid (EFA) molecules. Krill also contains astaxanthin, a potent membrane antioxidant that helps ensure krill oil’s exceptional shelf life stability.
