CHICAGO—After rapid increases, private label share performance has leveled during the past year, reports Supermarket News. They noted store brands accounted for 18.3 percent of CPG dollar sales and 23.1 percent of unit sales, according to SymphonyIRI's new Times & Trends report.
They article stated dollar and unit share are up 1.9-points and 1.5-points since 2007, respectively, but they have online increased 0.2 points each in the last 52 weeks ending April 18, 2010 versus the same period the prior year.
The article said SymphonyIRI's researchers found the recession prompted many shoppers to try store brands for the first time. And, those shoppers seem to be sticking with private label products even as the economy improves.
