AUSTIN, Texas—Lafe's Natural & Organic Body Care agreed to use 100-percent green power generated from clean, renewable sources through Austin Energy's GreenChoice® program. At almost 800 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) in subscriptions and growing, Austin Energy's GreenChoice is the nation's most successful utility-sponsored green energy program.

"Today, the increasing energy demand and the need for clean-power generation leads everyone's mind to the concept of renewable energy sources," explained Lafe's Natural Body Care founder & CEO, Lafe Larson. Austin Energy receives electricity from wind turbines located in west Texas that are equipped with a rotor or blades to convert the wind's energy into rotational shaft energy.

"We are very excited about implementing the program in our offices and warehouse," Larson continued. “As a company dedicated to eco-friendly business initiatives for a greener environment, this marks another step in complementing our core business with the reduction of our carbon footprint."

Air has mass, and when it is in motion, contains the energy of that motion (kinetic energy). A wind energy system transforms kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical or electrical energy that can be harnessed for practical use.

In addition to using wind energy, Larson said Lafe’s has been shifting to other green practices, including distributing products made of all-natural ingredients; reuseing boxes to help reduce the impact of waste in our landfills; using packaging that is either partially recycled, recyclable, reusable or biodegradable; and cleaning the office with eco-friendly products.
